Whether you’re just beginning your art journey or looking to deepen an existing practice, you’ll be expertly guided through vibrant blue color play, intuitive techniques, and the magic of running stitches and natural indigo.
Artist background:
Under Sophie’s guidance, you will delve into distinctive approaches to Sashiko’s history, grid construction and stitching, Shibori resist techniques and natural Indigo dyeing, and practical textile repair. You’ll learn how to build rich patterns and textures with Sashiko, experiment with patterns using Nui Shibori, dye textiles with natural indigo, and approach mending as a creative and meditative practice. The workshop covers hands-on project creation including a bookmark, a small pouch, mended textiles, and Shibori-dyed Furoshiki cloth that will be turned into a versatile bag.
Each day will combine dedicated studio time with personalized instruction and creative exploration, offering a space to experiment, learn, and refine your technique. This retreat is an invitation to explore your creativity through the dynamic interplay of Sashiko embroidery, Shibori dyeing, and mindful textile mending, guided by Sophie. Whether you are new to hand stitching or an experienced artist seeking new inspiration and techniques, this retreat offers a unique opportunity to learn from Sophie, develop your skills, explore your creativity, and create beautiful, functional textile artwork in a stunning setting.
